I have tried running it on it's own and I cannot rotate the screen! So my thoughts were if I ran retropie 4.6 in the raspbian on noobs card it would sort this issue for me as screen rotate is simply on the menu.

I highly doubt that would be possible, just because you start the OS from Noobs. The PI4 model doesn't support 90/270 screen rotation as previous models did, see https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md.

@GreenHawk84 I totally get this. It took months to get my build perfect to the point I was only adding around 1 rom at a time so I could scrape and detail it perfectly. Now we have a huge upgrade it makes my palms sweaty so I don't mess anything up lol.

@BGallagherLA I've just watched your videos . Those are really nice! The main point is you can play "nice and soft" on RBPi4.
If you check my streamings out you'll see the results are the same as yours. But unfortunetely unplayable on RBPi3. See you on Twitch!

@Ravynmagi welcome. It was a 4 character change although I did check in a VM with Pop! OS also.

Just to note I have just improved the Kodi module as it failed on Ubuntu 20.10 - it should help with other Ubuntu versions (Basically it checks which kodi packages are available due to packaging differences between PPAs/versions)

@theissdev I should also mention that this was really my only issue in moving from the Pi 3B+ to the Pi4. Everything else was super simple. Ledspicer required a manual reinstall on the Pi4 simply due to being a bin exe, but that was really it. Most of the old -> new stuff (artwork, custom theme, etc.) all ported over w/ 0 issues. Def. worth the wait. Thanks guys!

All my snes rom have mgd file extension in each zip. After renaming all these rom to flc in the zip. No more problem...

That should be present in the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file, which is included in the psx config - so you should check that file and maybe reset it to the default set by RetroPie.

A simple workaround is to delay the tvservice call in runcommand-onstart.sh , e.g.:

Yes, it's possible, though this will disable the 4k video modes completely.

Also, given the performance issues with 4K, wouldn't it be better to have RetroPie be limited to 1080p max out of the box, with an easy way to enable 4K if the user wishes?

This is exactly what the hdmi_mode/hdmi_group settings do - set 1080p video mode by default, with the ability to choose 4k via runcommand (though performance will not be great). Kodi/Pixel desktop would still be able to use those modes for 4k HEVC movies/normal desktop.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to configure the video so that 'if 4k is available, use 1080p by default', so instead of forcing 1080p by default for all configurations, it's something that the user must configure after installation.

Thanks. I'm still having some issues: I installed a scratch retropie 4.6 image and I had the new retroarch interface (wonderful). After importing all my systems and anfter copyied /opt/retropie/config folder from my old distro, i have the old intarface again. How can I set the new user interface?

Thank you very much for your hint about KMS in the config.txt file.
I really didn't paid attention to this.
It was really commented, I don't know why. I didn't ever edit this file.
Now the installation has finished successfully.

The solution was really uncomment the two lines below regarding KMS dtoverlay into /boot/config.txt (and restart) :

[pi4] # Enable DRM VC4 V3D driver on top of the dispmanx display stack dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d max_framebuffers=2 [all] dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d start_x=0 gpu_mem=256 hdmi_enable_4kp60=1
